Melanocortin System

A family of peptide hormones (alpha-MSH and its analogs) and their receptors (MC1R through MC5R) that regulate skin pigmentation, sexual function, appetite, inflammation, and energy homeostasis. Melanocortin peptides include PT-141 (sexual function via MC4R), Melanotan I/II (tanning via MC1R), and setmelanotide (genetic obesity via MC4R).
