Incretin

Incretin

Gut hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) released after eating that enhance insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. Incretin-based therapies — GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GIP/GLP-1 agonists — are the foundation of modern obesity and diabetes pharmacotherapy. The incretin effect accounts for 50-70% of postprandial insulin secretion.
